CodeMonkey’s Code Rush is an annual coding competition for 3rd-8th graders in the U.S. and Canada.
Solve as many CodeMonkey challenges as you can and you may be one of the 20 lucky teams to win prizes for your school!

Your team needs to consist of 8 to 10 students from grades 3-5 or grades 6-8. Pick wisely! teams can only be a mix of different grades within the grade division. Team leader should be a teacher, instructor or parent. If you are a STEM teacher, a librarian or a parent, this is a great opportunity for you to get your kids involved. *The competition is only available for teams in the United States and Canada.
Participation cost is $49.95 per team. If you would like to enter more than one team, you'll have to pay $49.95 per team. The CodeMonkey website is secure and we don't store any credit card information at checkout - We are PCI Level 1 compliant, and use a secure, PCI Level 1 compliant payment gateway.
Each team member will get a personal CodeMonkey account. Members can log in using a desktop computer, laptop, Chromebook or tablet. An active internet connection is required. Each team also gets one teacher/librarian account for managing the student accounts and keeping track of the team progress.
Every solution in CodeMonkey gets a star score; three is the highest score. At the end of the competition, we will count the average star score of each team. Note that your team is only competing with teams in their age division: elementary or middle school. The 10 teams in each grade range with the highest star score average in the shortest time will win the Code Rush competition.
CodeMonkey is an interactive platform that introduces kids to coding in a real life programming language. In this competition, teams will play through 150 challenges, covering programming topics such as objects, functions, simple loops, variables, arrays and for-loops.
The winning teams will receive a yearly CodeMonkey classroom subscription, an official trophy plaque from CodeMonkey and more prizes from our sponsors, which we will reveal shortly.
The top 10 teams from each age group will receive prizes!

Code Rush is CodeMonkey’s annual coding competition for 3rd-8th graders in the U.S. and Canada. No, CodeMonkey is completely web based and does not require you to install anything.
Yes, there is no need of any previous experience to use or teach with CodeMonkey. Also every team leader account comes with access to our lesson plans to help you better prepare your team members for the competition.
Currently, Code Rush is only available for teams from the United States and Canada. We hope to be able to create similar competitions for other countries. If you want us to bring Code Rush to your school be sure to let us know via email info@cm-studios.com
The official score is calculated from the number of stars students achieve as a team during the 100 Space Monkey challenges. The warm-up Coding Adventure challenges will not be counted towards to total goal. At the end of Code Rush, we will count the average star score of each team (by dividing the number of total stars accumulated by the number of members in your team). There needs to be a minimum of 8 students per team and a maximum of 10. In the event of a tie between two or more teams, the team that achieved the score first shall be deemed the winner.

To submit one team for the competition, you’ll need to make a single online payment of $49.95. If you would like to enter more than one team of 8-10 students, you’ll have to pay $49.95 per team.

The programming language used in CodeMonkey is called CoffeeScript. It’s a language that compiles to JavaScript, and similarly to JavaScript it is used in the industry primarily for web applications. We chose this language for a few reasons, but mainly because of its friendly syntax, which resembles the way we write in English, compared to other programming languages.
Yes, please join us! No matter if your team is an after school club or just a group of friends who love coding, as long as you have 8 to 10 members, in the relevant ages, and you can pay the participation fee, you can participate.
