Bienvenido a Meet the Teacher: el segmento del blog de CodeMonkey donde los maestros de todo el mundo comparten sus experiencias sobre lo que es ser un educador.\u00a0<\/em>La publicaci\u00f3n de hoy presenta a MaryAnn D. Powell, quien es Facilitadora de Tecnolog\u00eda Educativa K-12 en las Escuelas P\u00fablicas del Condado de Edgecombe en Tarboro, Carolina del Norte.<\/em><\/b><\/h3>\n

“Initially, I became a teacher because I wanted a mom\u2019s schedule: summers off to be with my kids. Then while I was being a stay-at-home mom<\/a>, I fell in love with our home PC, back when the Internet and the world it opened up were new. \u00a0Then I found out I could combine my love of computers with my teaching profession and teach something I LOVED! \u00a0Graduate school, here I came!<\/span><\/em><\/p>\n

I am very much connected to my local teachers, regional teachers, state organization members, national techno-geeks, and the global education community. \u00a0I have participated in several MOOC-Ed courses through The Friday Institute and NCSU, as well as being a lurker and sometimes tweeter on Twitter (ECPS_MsP). I subscribe to so many blogs, I can\u2019t count them, and when there are no other demands on my time, I\u2019m scouring them to find something new to learn. \u00a0I think there is no better way to be a lifelong learner than to connect with other like souls.<\/span><\/em><\/p>\n

Working with children<\/a> reminds me daily that they are our future! \u00a0If we fail to prepare them for the unknown that is their futures, we have failed them. Resilience, tenacity, real-world problems, those are the things we should be exposing our children to, not just how to get the right answer that is going to be on \u201cthe test.\u201d We spend way too much time and effort sitting in straight rows, maintaining silence, prepping for tests, having student regurgitate facts, when we should really be encouraging students to think for themselves! \u00a0Learning is messy, and loud, and exciting!<\/span><\/em><\/p>\n

It’s important to me that my students find their passion<\/a>, that one thing they WANT to learn about! \u00a0That opens the door to so much more learning. It\u2019s also important that they know I care. You know the rest of that story.<\/span><\/em><\/p>\n

[Un consejo que les dar\u00eda a los profesores que reci\u00e9n est\u00e1n comenzando a introducir la tecnolog\u00eda educativa es] \u00a1no tengan miedo! \u00a1Usualmente no puedes romperlo! Solo entra e int\u00e9ntalo. Si algo sale mal, \u00a1est\u00e1 bien! \u00a1Est\u00e1s modelando la resiliencia para tus estudiantes! \u00a1No temas pedirles a ELLOS que te ayuden con la tecnolog\u00eda! Eso puede ser muy enriquecedor para sus estudiantes. Como dijo una vez una famosa compa\u00f1\u00eda de atletismo: "\u00a1Hazlo!"<\/span><\/em><\/p>\n
